About Beet Harvester Springs
On a beet lifter the feeler spring keeps the lifting share on the row. When its force drops the share wanders off the row and the proportion of beet passing unlifted rises. It is a form of wear that is noticed late but shows up directly in harvest loss.
Conical springs are preferred in this group because they save space: since the coils nest inside one another, the solid length is roughly one wire diameter. Achieving the same stroke with a straight cylindrical spring would demand more installed length.
