On a sprayer, the boom and wing springs let the boom follow the field surface and fold back and out again when it meets an obstacle. A drop in spring force leads to boom height fluctuating and the spray pattern breaking down.
The distinguishing difficulty of this group is chemical exposure. Agricultural chemicals accelerate surface corrosion; corrosion reduces spring force through loss of section. Coating choice therefore affects service life directly here, and stainless material is considered where required.
