The Fimaks items in our catalogue sit in two different machine groups: the hay rake pickup spring on one side, and the row-independent forage harvester spring on the other. The double-legged rake spring and extension spring photographs in our gallery belong to these groups.
In the field a gearbox-driven rotary rake is usually called a helicopter in Turkish, and the work it does is called windrowing. The same part is therefore known by several names depending on the region: helicopter spring, windrow spring, rake spring or pickup spring. All describe the same torsion type form spring at the end of the rotating arm.
This spring is the highest-cycle part on the machine. The arm sweeps the crop on every turn, the leg opens a little on every contact, and the spring takes the load back. Failure therefore usually begins as opening rather than breakage: the leg angle widens, the tip no longer takes a full bite, and the windrow stays ragged. The machine looks sound while raking performance falls. Comparing the free leg angle against the original is the quickest check.
The second cause of wear is impact. A leg striking a stone, a stubble crown or a ridge starts a fatigue crack at the most highly stressed point of the spring — the bend where the body meets the leg. What governs in this family is fatigue life rather than static strength, which is why stress relieving after coiling is never skipped.
Three dimensions are enough to order: wire diameter, body (inside) diameter and overall length. Wire diameters between 8 and 9.5 mm are the ones most often seen in this group, but they vary from machine to machine, so the dimension on your own part is what we need. If you cannot measure it, a photograph of the old spring next to a ruler will do.
The forage harvester item has a different character: the extension type spring on a row-independent machine carries a constant preload under continuous vibration. Even under the same machine brand it cannot be swapped with the rake spring — where the part sits on the machine matters more than the brand name.

Are the helicopter spring and the windrow spring the same thing?
Yes, both are field names for the same part. A gearbox-driven rotary rake is called a helicopter in some regions, and the work it does is called windrowing; the torsion type form spring at the end of the rotating arm goes by both names.
Do you make the Fimaks rake spring to original dimensions?
Yes. It is produced from the wire diameter, body dimensions, coil direction and leg form of the original part, and fits without modification to the machine.
What wire diameter do I need?
Wire diameters between 8 and 9.5 mm are the ones most often seen in this group, but they vary from machine to machine. We need the wire diameter, body diameter and length of your own part; a photograph next to a ruler is enough if you cannot measure it.
The spring has not broken but raking has got worse — should I replace it?
Very likely. In this family fatigue appears as opening before breakage: the leg angle widens, the tip no longer takes a full bite and the windrow stays ragged. The spring can look sound while no longer doing its job.
Should I replace springs one at a time or as a set?
Springs on the same arm see similar loads over a similar number of cycles and fatigue at a similar rate; if one has broken, its neighbours are close behind. Replacing the set keeps the machine working evenly. Single-part sales are also available.
Can the forage harvester spring and the rake spring be interchanged?
No. The forage harvester item is an extension spring and the rake item is a torsion type form spring. They do different jobs even under the same brand; where the part sits matters more than the brand name.
Can you make a Fimaks spring that is not in the list?
Yes. Our coiling line works across the 0.20–40 mm wire range with no tooling dependency; we produce from a sample, a technical drawing or dimensions.
